What Is Shockwave Therapy Therapy?
Shockwave therapy involves using compressed air to fire a pellet back and forth within an applicator that looks like a wand or gun. The energy created is transferred through the end of the applicator and into the tissue to promote reparative processes.
The shockwave treatment lasts for 1200 to 1500 beats and the intensity can range from 0.3BAR – 8.0BAR. The shockwave contacts the patients at 15 times a second for most injuries.

The focus shockwave has a much deeper penetration and usually costs much more than a radial shockwave treatment.
The actual shockwave treatment take 1 to 2 minutes. However, some clinics do modalities and heat to prime the affected area before shockwave treatment is administered. This pre-shockwave treatment allows for much better results with the shockwave therapy.

There are no serious side effects from Shockwave Therapy. There may be some temporary skin reddening or discomfort for 1 -2 days following treatment. We treat within the patients pain tolerance. Dr. Steve will recommend icing after your shockwave treatment.
