No, you do not need a medical doctors note to get treated from a physiotherapist. However, if you are trying to get treatment covered by insurance, you may need an MD note to get reimbursed.
2. What type of treatment do physiotherapists perform?
Physiotherapists perform all types of treatments. From hands on and modalities to Graston and shockwave therapy physiotherapists can treat most muscular skeletal conditions. Most physiotherapist will also develop a custom workout or rehabilitation game plan, specifically designed for the patients needs.
3. Is physiotherapy painful?
No, most physiotherapy treatment is not painful. However, some modalities and hands on can be uncomfortable.
4. How many physiotherapy treatments will I need?
How many treatments depends on the patients diagnosis. Injury timeline and type of injury is also important in the healing process. Most patients will notice a change in the first couple of visits and complete resolution between 8 and 16 visits. Some conditions will require ongoing treatment or rehabilitation away from the clinic.
5. Can you directly bill my physiotherapy insurance in Oakville, Ontario?
Yes, in most cases we can directly bill your insurance. Every plan is different though and we recommend the patients call or check their coverage before making an appointment.
6. How much do physiotherapy sessions cost?
Most physiotherapists will charge between $120 – $200 for the initial assessment and treatment. Treatment costs can vary from $60 to $220 dollars depending on clinic and treatment protocols.
7. What is the difference between massage therapy and physiotherapy?
Massage therapy will consist of a hands on timed approach for treatment. Treatment times are usually 30 minutes to 1 hour and the patient is passive during this time. Physiotherapy treatments will consist of active care for the patient, usually with a emphasize on motion, modalities such as shockwave and IFC. The physiotherapist will be looking to cure the root cause of the problem.
8. What is the difference between chiropractic and physiotherapy?
At our Oakville clinic our physiotherapy team and our chiropractor treats virtually the same. A combination of IFC, heat, Graston, Shockwave, Active Release Therapy along with exercise prescriptions will be used to help the patient heal. The only difference is in most spine case the chiropractor will adjust the patients and the physiotherapist will not.
