Chiropractor Recommended Shoes
If you have been to our Oakville clinic you have seen Dr. Steve and his collection of Asics Resolution tennis shoes. For those of you who do not know Dr. Steve he became a chiropractor almost 20 years ago after his chiropractor saved his life. Her suffered a pretty severe back injury playing hockey and lifting weights and it was his local chiropractor who helped him got off the medications and back to a high level of activity he is today
If you are ever in the clinic the three things Dr. Steve recommends on a daily basis are icing, supportive shoes and firm mattresses. These three fundamentals have helped Dr. Steve treat thousands of patients a month and run around in circles in our Oakville clinic for 18,000 steps a shift.
Can custom orthotics do the same thing as supportive shoes?
The real answer is maybe. Depending on your foot issue and how is effecting your area of injury you might just need supportive shoes or you might need some Custom orthotics and with some more cushiony shoes. If you are looking for more cushion in your shoes, Dr. Steve recommends the Asics Cumulus and the Asics Nimbus. There are lots of other non supportive shoes from Hoka, New Balance and Saucony that he recommends. Find the shoe that is right for you.
Why does our chiropractor recommend supportive shoes?
Most patients we treat has some sort of over pronation or flat feet. Coupled this with sedentary jobs and weak core muscles shoes become a more important assets than you could ever imagine. Dr. Steve owns countless pairs of Asics Resolution tennis shoes, even though he has never plaid a game of tennis in his life. The Asics Resolution are flat, super supportive and last a long time.
The biggest thing with supportive footwear is keeping the foot inline, to keep the knee inline, to not allow the ITB to get tight, to not change the angle of your pelvis to not allow your QL (Quadratus Lumborum) muscles to get over worked. This can cause your SI joint to get out of place and start a cascade of events that can take forever to heal.
Custom Orthotics and Shoes in Oakville
Dr. Steve recommends New Balance, Asics, Brooks and Saucony for almost all of his patient’s shoe needs. Back pain, foot pain, knee pain, hip pain could all be exacerbated by improper footwear that does not support the arches or help control the patients gait. If you can fold your Nike Free’s up and put them in your pocket, there most likely not doing their job !
Too many females come into our clinic with 4 inch heels complaining of Plantar Fasciitis or Low Back pain blaming it on their weekend of yard work, when the real culprit is what they have on their feet.
