6 Minute Workout For Bad Posture
Shoulder pain can come from a variety of sources. Injury to the rotator cuff, shoulder impingement, bursitis and tendonitis/tendinosis are all common causes of pain. One of the lesser known culprits that can cause shoulder pain is immobility of the thoracic spine and a poorly controlled scapula. 50% of all new patients who come into the clinic are suffering from a rib subluxation and stiffness in their mid-back and shoulders!
Our Oakville chiropractors are seeing this more and more with people on their mobile devices and working from laptops from home. Repetitive motions like using the touch pad on your laptop instead of a mouse at your desk can cause your shoulder blade to rotate laterally (outwards) putting undue stress on the scapular region and the shoulder. This causes tension in your rhomboids and neck muscles and can pull out or subluxate a rib head.
How to treat scapular instability?
Almost all patient who come into our clinic complaining of either upper back and neck pain or shoulder pain have a poor scapular movement pattern and some shoulder blade winging. Dr Steve Knighton’s most common diagnosis for symptoms like this include; rotator cuff strains, rib subluxations and thoracic spine dysfunction are very common.
Shoulder pain can be extremely debilitating. Simple daily tasks like putting on a jacket, reaching for your seatbelt or picking up a heavy pot can all be affected by a painful shoulder. Sleeping can be the worst too. Imagine if you could reduce pain and improve shoulder functioning by concentrating on the shoulder blade?
