My first encounter with Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture was some 20 years ago when a friend of a friend asked me to be her patient in the student clinic. I'd been plagued by allergies for years, had tried many remedies without success, and thought "maybe this will help". The acupuncture did help, slowly, but what I noticed more was how it seemed to effect what I felt inside: less cynical, less depressed, more alive and wanting to be alive. "What was this strange technology that could effect parts of me I barely even knew existed" I wondered. And so off I went to acupuncture school.

Through the years I've studied many different styles of acupuncture: Five Element, TCM, Dr. Tan's Balance Method, Acupuncture Detox, and more. As a practicing engineer (one of my other personalities), I'm constantly trying to understand how things work. When I listen to a pulse, look at a tongue or catalog symptoms, the questions I'm asking are "What is the overall condition of the entire body?", "How do these symptoms and signs fit into the larger system?", and "How can I support the whole system and help the body find a better harmony, and thereby decrease the severity of the distressing symptoms?" The gift Chinese Medicine brings to the world is a new understanding of how our bodies work. It's a dynamic view, with different layers of the body feeding each other, controlling each other, and reacting with the outside world in an attempt to maintain harmony.

There is never a simple formula for understanding a person and how they can improve their health. I see symptoms as attempts at balance. I try to make small interventions and watch for responses. I suggest dietary, behavioral or life style changes and ask my clients to notice how they feel. Chinese Medical Theory often provides an understanding of symptoms, thoughts and feelings that integrates pieces of ourselves into a coherrent whole and guides the choices we make in how to best take care of ourselves.

I received my B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and my Masters Degree in Acupuncture from the Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Columbia, Maryland. I have been practicing acupuncture since 1992. In addition to my formal studies I have done extensive advanced training in several areas, including Five Element Diagnosis and Treatment with Dr. J.R. Worsley, Pulse Diagnosis with Leon Hammer and with Bob Flaws, Zero Balancing with Fritz Smith, Acu-Quit detox training with Jonathan Klate and others.

I am National Board Certified in Acupuncture by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists (NCCAOM), and am a Licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Colorado.
